Dalton Ivan Smith SPARTANBURG, SC-- Dalton Ivan "D.I." Smith, 92, of Spartanburg, formerly of Arcadia, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. Born October 29, 1920, in Abbeville, SC, he was the son of the late John "J.K." and Lelia Simmons Smith and was married to the late Hallie Mae Loyd Smith for 70 years. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A U. S Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith was an agent for Liberty Life for many years and retired from Efirds Exterminating Company. He was a member of Arcadia Baptist Church, Anglo Saxon Lodge #285, and a Shriner. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara E. Rutledge and husband Charles of Boiling Springs, SC; a son, Larry Dean Smith and wife Jean of Inman, SC; four grandsons, Reverend Jeff Rutledge, Steve Rutledge, Larry D. Smith Jr., and Scott D. Smith; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Smith. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at their respective homes.
