ANDERSON, Douglas AltonApril 3, 1960 - May 12, 2013Douglas Alton, our special gift from God, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully with his whole family by his side Sunday, May 12, 2013. He leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his passing, his loving parents Joan and Al, his sisters, Jackie (Harry) Smith, Gillian, Zach and Logan; Judy (David) Jahnke, Elisabeth, Daniel and Annelise; Karen (Pat) Kelly, Julia and Stephen; and his brother Kirk (Shauna) Anderson, Jenna and Luke; as well as all his Elmwood and Cosmo friends and his devoted caregivers. Doug is also survived by his Uncle Cliff and Auntie Betty Anderson (Victoria), Uncle Morris and Auntie Betty Anderson (Christopher Lake), Uncle Bruce Fotheringham (Penticton); and many cousins. He was predeceased by his Grandparents, Clarence and Alma Anderson and David and Mable Fotheringham, uncles and aunties Ray and Marj Anderson, Russ and Audrey Anderson and cousin Bev Anderson.Doug was born on April 3, 1960 in Saskatoon. Shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy. We were fortunate to be a part of an innovative new Developmental Centre in Saskatoon that Doug was able to attend. He attended a similar program at John Dolan School until the age of 21, when he graduated to Cosmopolitan Industries, where last year he celebrated his 35th year.During his early years he lived at home with his parents. For the last 20 years he has lived in a loving home run by Elmwood Residences where he received exceptional love and care. Doug says goodbye to all his girlfriends, Joanne, Mary Jo, Sharon, Emma and Carolyn. To Elmwood and Cosmo and his incredible caregivers there, we extend our deepest gratitude for your love and care of our special guy all these years. Thanks for your love and compassion and for treating him with respect and dignity.A Celebration of Doug's life will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 1:30pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 323 – 4th Ave. South, Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Top of the Rock Fund", c/o Cosmopolitan industries, 28 – 34th St. East, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 3Y2. This program provides life enriching activities for the participants of Cosmo and the residents of Elmwood.We thank God for your life and example Dougie, and although we will miss you so much, we are certain that you are with your loved ones in Heaven.
