DAVIS, Dorothy ElizabethPatterson, age 69, died of leukemia on June 25, 2008. Sheis survived by her husband,Dr. James H. Davis of Celebration, FL; her mother, HelenPatterson of Shawnee, OK;one brother, Rev. John Patterson (wife Gail) of Jackson,MS; six sisters, Mary Helen Ortega (husband Magno) ofNapa, CA, Bertha Henderson(husband Darl) of Miami, FL,Carol Greer (husband Ralph)of Buffalo, KY, Virginia Goforth(husband James) of Rusk, TX,Sarah Anders (husband Mich'l) Lexington, KY, MarthaJohnson (husband Jay) ofLongview, TX; eight niecesand nephews; fourteen great-nieces and nephews. She ispreceded in death by her father, Rev. Lester V. Patterson. Dorothy was born and raisedin Oklahoma. She graduatedfrom Oklahoma Baptist University of Shawnee, OK, NewOrleans Baptist TheologicalSeminary and did additionalgraduate studies at AuburnUniversity and Vanderbilt University. After serving in churches as ayouth and educational director, she became the principalof Colonial Hills ElementarySchool in the Huntsville CitySchool System. In 1984, shewas appointed principal ofthe Academy for Academicsand Arts and led in developing that fine arts magnetschool. The school wasnamed as a President'sSchool of Excellence in 1987.Among her numerousawards, she was named Alabama Fine Arts Administratorof the year and also receivedthe Fine Arts Administrator ofthe Year award presented bythe Kennedy Center. In August of1997, she moved toCelebration, FL to becomethe Director of the new K-12Celebration School and remained in that position untilDecember 31, 2000. The funeral will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy, Alabama on July 1, 2008 at10:00 A.M. with visitation onehour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Old LebanonBaptist Church Cemetery withDillard Funeral Home directing.
