Longtime resident of Leominster; 95 LEOMINSTER -- Dorothy A. (Rydberg) Murphy, 95 years old, of Leominster, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in the Sterling Village Nursing Center.She is survived by her sons, Robert P. Murphy, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Westford, and John R. Murphy and his wife, Lola of San Diego, CA; her daughter, Marilyn C. Murphy; and four grandchildren.She was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. Murphy in 2009, and her sister, Arlene Cobb in 2010.Dorothy was born October 18, 1916 in Leominster, daughter of John and Alma (Danielson) Rydberg, and had lived in Leominster for most of her life. For a few years during her teens, she and her family relocated to Tempe, AZ, because of her father's poor health. After his death, the family returned to Leominster and she graduated from Leominster High School.She worked at Raytheon during World War II, and then at JC Penney on Main Street in Leominster. Dorothy later was a cafeteria worker for the Leominster Public School for several years. After retiring, she volunteered at Health Alliance-Leominster Hospital for many years. She was a longtime worker at the Ward 4 Voting Polls.Dorothy was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Leominster, and was a member of a weekly bridge club for many years. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.MURPHY -- A graveside service for Dorothy and her husband Robert will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 1 pm in Forest Hill Cemetery in Fitchburg. There are no calling hours.
