Mrs. Doris Jean Cox, age 59, of Florence, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, after an extended illness.Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Brian Jarrett officiating. Burial will follow in Florence City Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Chris Ragan, Shaun Ragan, Bryan Young, Boo Burns, Keith Bevis and John Hale.Mrs. Cox grew up in Killen and lived most of her adult life in Florence. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and sister, and was known affectionately by her grandchildren as "Nana."She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel John Cox III, and her sister, Katie Varnell.She is survived by her son, Trent Cox and fiancee, Rachel Howard, of Florence; sisters, Marie Ragan and Frances Young, both of Florence; and two grandchildren, Sam and Gracie Cox.Spry-Williams Funeral Home is directing.
