BROWN, DORA LEE HUGHES 94, passed away July 16, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Earl Waller Brown, her parents, John Elbert Hughes, and Dolly Summerall Hughes; and her four brothers, Fornie Asbury Hughes, Olin Marvin Hughes, Willie Weldon Hughes, and Elbert Wayne Hughes. She is survived by daughters, Jane Ellen McGuiness (Lee) of Ponte Vedra, Florida and Anne Elizabeth Brown Wilson (Richard) of Columbus, Georgia. Dora Lee was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family and her church family. She was honored by her seven grandchildren: Ralph Cunningham (Linda) of Houston, Texas, Heather Hancock (John) of Sydney, Australia, Susan Cunningham of Houston, Texas, Elisabeth Pannell (Adam) of Atlanta, Georgia, Chad Wilson (Christi) of Birmingham, Alabama, Stephen Cunningham of Houston, Texas, and John Michael Robinson of London, England, along with 15 great grandchildren, 11 great step children; special nieces and nephews; and sister, Johnnie Bell. Born August 5, 1918 in Birmingham, Alabama, she was a lifetime resident of Birmingham, Alabama having graduated from Woodlawn High School. Dora Lee and Earl married on June 14, 1940, at West Woodlawn Baptist Church. They set up their first residence in Woodlawn Highland. Dora Lee was passionate about her church and community. She served in a number of volunteer roles within the church, and was proud to be part of the Building Committee when they relocated to a new site to become Liberty Park Baptist Church. She also served as a volunteer in her church library and at Baptist Montclair Hospital later in her life. A graveside service will be Monday, July 22, at 10:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM at Liberty Park Baptist Church. Reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Liberty Park Baptist Church Library.
