of Suffern and Speculator, NY, died August 16, 2001 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, following a period of declining health. He was born September 21, 1921 in Woodruff, SC to the late Rev. David J. Fant Jr. and Sara Willis Fant. He attended Wheaton College and was a graduate of the New York Medical College. After serving in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, he completed anesthesiology residency at the Hartford General Hospital in Hartford, CT. He became the first anesthesiologist at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ where he served as chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Chief of the Medical Staff. Dr. Fant is survived by his wife, Gloria Norton Leddy Fant, a son David Jones Fant IV LtC, USAF (Retired) and his wife Catherine Traver Fant, Col, USAFR of Big Cove Tannery, PA; two grandchildren, Cpt. Patricia Traver Fant of Ft. Huachuca, AZ and Christopher David Fant of Manassas, VA; a stepson, Donald V. Leddy Jr and his wife Lynne of Camino, CA; a stepdaughter, Dianne Leddy Baldwin of Syracuse, NY; five stepgrandchildren Julianna and Miles Leddy; Shannon, Beth and Kelly Baldwin, and two nieces and two nephews survive. In retirement, he was very active in support of the Pathway in Speculator, the Adirondack Museum, the Adirondack Explorer, the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks and the Adirondacks Council. A graveside service will be held at 11:45 am in Fish Mountain Cemetery in Speculator, NY on Tuesday, August 21, 2001.
