McDONALD Clifford L., 90, of Fair Lawn, NJ passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Born and raised in Richmond, NY he resided in Fair Lawn since 1949. Clifford proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served as a flight engineer on a C-47 with missions in North Africa, Normandy, Sicily, Rhineland and flew 118 sorties during the D-Day campaign. Mr. McDonald was a faithful member of the Rea Avenue Reformed church of Hawthorne, he was a member of the choir and served as an Elder. He also attended services at the 1st Reformed Church of Hawthorne. An avid history buff, he enjoyed researching the Civil War, World War II and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Cliff was passionate about the NY Yankees. Clifford worked in the U.S. Postal Service for forty years and retired as the manager of the Broadway office in Fair Lawn. Beloved husband of May (Wienke) McDonald. Loving and devoted father of Paul McDonald and wife, Lissa and Laurie Cruz and husband, Albert. Cherished grandfather of Meghan ,David, Christine and Kathleen. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, May 28, 2011, 11 am at the Vander Plaat Colonial Home Inc. 13-31 Saddle River Road Fair Lawn, NJ 201-797-3500. Interment will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park Paramus, NJ. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
