WINCHESTER, N.H. -- Clarice L. Vaine Smith, 84, of 76 North Main St., Winchester, died Monday evening at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.She was born March 13, 1920, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Arthur and Vera (Porter) Macomber.She attended schools in Westminster, Vt., and had made her home in Winchester since 1938.Mrs. Smith was formerly employed as a cook and manager at several Keene area restaurants including the luncheon counter at Keene Dry Cleaners, the Winchester House and the Open Kitchen.She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winchester and was noted for her homemade pies.She was first married to Nelle J. Vaine. Following the end of her first marriage, she married Paul Smith who died in 1975.Survivors include six sons: Timothy and his wife, Catheryn, of Winchester, Norman and his wife, Mary Jo, of Swanzey, Jerry and his wife, Sue, of Boone, N.C., Mark and his wife, Nancy, of Ashville, N.C., Neil and his wife, Connie, of Winchester, and Stephen and his wife, Sheryle, of Port Richey, Fla.; a stepson, Wallace Vaine of Ahwapukoo Foothills, Ariz.; a sister, Jenny Woods of Winchester; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Rosalie and Clarice; and two sisters, Evelyn Vaine and Helen Desilet.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Richmond Road, Winchester. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Bellows Falls.
