Funeral service for Clarence Jackson, 92, who died February 8, 2007, at Sandlewood Nursing Home, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at Daytona Deliverance COGIC. Interment will follow at Mt. Ararat Cemetery. Calling hours are today (Friday) from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Herbert Thompson Funeral Home. Clarence Jackson was born May 16, 1914, to John Allen and Mamie Jackson Sr., in Bunnell. He moved to Daytona Beach and found the love of his life, Elizabeth Jackson. At the tender age of 84, he became a member of the Daytona Deliverance Church of God, where his mother was the first appointed church mother. In 1999 he moved in with his daughter, Celestine Jackson Spencer (Clarence), who became his caregivers. After he became too ill for his daughter to bring him to church, he began to attend the Reformed Church of the Living God with her husband up until he had to be admitted to Sandlewood Nursing Center. God, in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to call Clarence Jackson from this earthly life on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at 1:40 a.m., as he laid resting in his bed. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Jackson; his parents, John Allen and Mamie Jackson; six brothers, Cecil, Nelson, Lonnie, Plezie, Samuel and John Jackson; two sisters, Crizell and Viola Jackson; granddaughter, Voncile Hatton; niece, Daisy Dyal; and nephew, Bennie L. Burke. He leaves to mourn his absence and celebrate his homegoing: his daughter and caregiver, Celestine Jackson Spencer and her husband, Elder Clarence Spencer Sr., Daytona Beach; stepdaughter, Valdora Reed, Melbourne; five grandchildren, Linda E. Vaughn (Ray Sr.), Tallahassee, Jackie M. Spencer (Lisa), the Rev. Shawanda P. Robinson (Mark), Clarence Spencer Jr. (Sherry), Shawn W. Spencer (Shelly) all of Daytona Beach; 13 great-grandchildren, Niena and Danard Reeves, Ray Jr., and Nequila M. Vaughn, Patricia, Jamar, and Ja'Lisa Spencer, Marcus, Brandon, Tony and Joshua Spencer, Shawtai Spencer and Shironda Guy; one great-great-grandchild; and three great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Herbert Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
