TUSCALOOSA Clara Mae Bailey Smith, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, was called home to be with her Lord on December 4, 2008. Services will be Sunday, December 7th, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing, and Reverend Bobby Holladay and Missionary Gerald Burch officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Clara Mae Smith was born January 8, 1919, in Heiberger, Ala. A resident of Tuscaloosa for eighty-six years, she graduated from Livingston University's Teachers College in 1938 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Alabama. She taught in the Tuscaloosa County Schools for forty-five years. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church since her childhood.She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Smith, and her parents, Levi and Effie Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, J.B. Bailey and Thomas Wesley (T.W.) Bailey. Survivors include her nephews, David Clark Bailey, Sr. (Phyllis) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Richard Bruce Bailey (Cecilia) of Decatur, Ala.; her nieces, Brenda Bailey Burch (Gerald) of Mobile, Ala. and Carolyn Fay Bailey of Mobile, Ala.; great nephews, David Clark Bailey, Jr. (Traci) of Northport, Ala. and Gary Dwayne Burch (Trista) of Sidney, Ill.; great nieces, Wyndy Bailey Looney (Scott) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Melissa Burch McCullar (Forrest) of Cullman, Ala. She is also survived by twelve great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Clark Bailey, Scott Looney, Hayes Looney, Forrest McCullar, Donald Bailey, and Ken Carter.Members of Rosedale Baptist Church, and the residents and staff of Skyland Oaks Retirement Center will be honorary pallbearers.
