Clara Mae Townson Adams, 73, of 15 Cherry Field Court, formerly of Greenville, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the residence of her son. A native of Clay County, N. C., and former resident of Murphy, N.C., she had lived in the Greenville area since 1959. A daughter of the late George Washington and Sara Mae Ford Townson, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murphy, N.C. She was an auditor with the Greenville County Tax Office for 22 years, having retired in 1993, and worked for many years at Greenville Memorial Auditorium events. She volunteered in many community activities including election official of Greenville County and Furman University sporting events. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Brian Daniel and Linda Adams of Greer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry L. and Ray Carter of Mauldin and Ann M. and Don Stevens of Garner, N.C. Also five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday in Sunset Cemetery, Murphy, N.C., with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Townson-Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Ministry of Brookwood Community Church, 3161 South Highway 14, Greenville, SC 29615.
