BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Clara M. Van, 88, a former longtime resident of Pageant Street, died Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center; she had resided at Rivers Edge Community Care home on Hunt Street for the past few years.Mrs. Van was born in Pownal on April 6, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Nancy A. (Harmon) Davis. Growing up in Pownal she attended the Maple Grove Schoolhouse. She was married to Albert T. Van on June 16,1933, he predeceased her in 1988. For many years she had worked at the former Ben Mont Paper Co. and had also worked as a beautician, maintaining a salon in North Adams, Mass. and then in her home in Bennington. Mrs. Van was a very active member and supporter of the Green Mountain Christian Center, she had been a hospice volunteer; she enjoyed taking walks, swimming and the company of her Pomeranian dogs. She leaves her grandson Shawn Van of Broadalbin, N.Y. as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her son Nelson Van in 1986; her brothers Walter Davis, Lewis Davis and Orrin Davis; and her sisters Mabel Davis, Cora Betit and Etta Goodwin.Funeral services will be held at The Green Mountain Christian Center, Harwood Hill in Bennington on Friday, June 11, at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. John Goyette, pastor. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow at the church. Interment will take place on Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m. in the Van family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St. on Thursday, June 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present.
