<!-- FH = Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, GA -->CHIEF ERNESTRAY DAVIS,USAF (retired)SHARPSBURG, GA - Chief Ernest Ray Davis, USAF (retired), age 74, resided in Sharpsburg, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 16, 2013.He was born on November 26, 1938 in Candler, NC to the late Norman Vance Davis and the late Beulah Estelle Williams. In 1958, he graduated from Enka High School and joined the US Air Force later that year. He married Annie Gertrude Hedden on January 25, 1959 also in Candler, NC.After 27 years of military service, he retired from Scott AFB IL as a Chapel Manager. He also served nearly 14 years as a Senior Special Agent for the Department of Defense in Charleston, SC. During his military career, he earned many citations and awards including: Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Device, Air Force Commendation Medal w/2 Devices, Army Commendation Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon w/1 device, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon w/1 Silver Device, National Defense Service Medal. After his retirement from the military, he resided in Charleston, SC.He was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Retired Air Force Chapel Staff Alumni. In addition, he was an active member of Canongate Golf Clubs and avid Tarheels fan.He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Annie Gertrude Davis; sons, Daniel Davis and wife, Linda, (Belleville, IL), Brice Davis and wife, Patti, (Lebanon, IL), Brian Davis and wife, Angela McMillan, (Peachtree City, GA); sisters, Barbara Jones and husband, Bill, (Liberty, SC), Patti Harris (Hendersonville, NC); and six grandchildren in both IL and GA. He also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law that he loved dearly.Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, John "Sandy" Davis, Marvin Eugene Davis, Bruce Davis, and sister, Norma June "Mickey" Schultz.The funeral service will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013.
