Chester "Monroe" Smith Chester Monroe Smith, son of James W.and Rebecca D. (Copley) Smith was born February 1, 1923 near Seymour in Webster County, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Seymour, at the age of eighty-seven. On September 8, 1942 he was united in marriage to Ruby Faye Dodson and to this union three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Hayley Burke; a sister, Velda Mingus; and three brothers, Reeoh (Red), Johnny, and Berlin Smith. Monroe is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, of the home; three sons, Jerry Smith and wife, JoEllen of Washington, Ill., Joe Dean Smith and wife, Eugenie Norma, of Shiloh, Ill., and Jackie Wayne Smith and wife, Kathy, of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Claude Mingus, of Seymour, Mo.; a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was a lifelong resident of Seymour and a retired rural mail carrier. He served his country faithfully with the United States Army during World War II, and was a longtime member of the Seymour First Baptist Church. Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010, in the Seymour First Baptist Church with burial in Seymour Masonic Cemetery under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
