-> Mr. Stewart, a local professional commercial real estate appraiser and developer, was killed Thursday, June 23, 2005 when a massive oak tree fell on his Chevy Tahoe during a heavy rainstorm as he was inspecting a residential tract that he planned to develop. Mr. Stewart was 49 years old. He attended local public schools, Armstrong State College and Georgia Tech, from which he received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in 1981. Upon graduation, Mr. Stewart was employed by Dowell Schlumberger in Indonesia from 1981 to 1985. After his return to the United States he entered his father's real estate appraisal practice, taking it over when his father, Charles L. Stewart, Jr., retired in 1993. Since that time he has continued appraising and become heavily involved in real estate development, building the Cornell Place office complex and Westgate Industrial Park and was planning a residential development off Quacco Road when he was killed. Mr. S tewart's achievements included the professional designations of MAI from the Appraisal Institute and SRPA also of the Institute. He was an active member of the local Real Estate Appraisal Organization having served as president several times. A dedicated family man, he is survived by his wife of 16 years Carolyn Hodges Stewart; a son, Charles Stewart; a daughter, Linda Stewart and his parents, Charles L. Stewart, Jr., and Anne Kimberly Stewart, all of Savannah. He is also survived by two sisters, Donna Stewart Thomas and her husband Dr. Ben Thomas, their daughters, Kim and Anna of Atlanta, and Deborah Stewart Beverly and her husband, Robert Beverly of Conyers, GA; an aunt, Lois Campbell her husband Joseph Campbell of Savannah; cousins, William, Marshall and Ronnie Campbell; an uncle, Dr. James Carlton Kimberly, his wife Barbara and their daughter, Elizabeth Kimberly of Lincoln, NE; a great aunt, Vivian Morgan; cousins, Vivian and Paul Corll, their daughters, Max and Helen all of Ft. L auderdale, FL. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm today, Sunday, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday in Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O.
