Charles Gordon Larson 1928 - 2013 LAKE BOMOSEEN Charles Gordon Larson, 84, of Lake Bomoseen, died Aug. 29, 2013, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 24, 1928, in Proctor, the son of Carl E. and May (Hood) Larson. Mr. Larson graduated from Fair Haven High School and, in 1948, from Vermont Technical College. He enlisted in the Army, serving during the Korean War until being honorably discharged in 1953. He had always wanted to be a farmer and enjoyed working at the Stearns Farm in Hoosick, N.Y., while he was also employed by the Bennington Garage for 22 years and 13 years by Johnson Controls until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Crippen-Fellows American Legion Post #50 in Castleton where he had served as the Chaplin, the Free and Accepted Masons Independence Lodge #10 in Orwell, and was formerly a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Mount Anthony Lodge # 13 in Bennington where he was a past master. Mr. Larson was a Boy Scout earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He later was the assistant scout master for the Hoosick, NY Troop #67. He enjoyed woodworking, the Lake, gardening, caring for animals, Polka dancing and spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Larson married Evelyn Bushee on Sept. 25, 1954, in Bennington, where he resided until retiring to Lake Bomoseen in 1993. Survivors include his wife Evelyn Larson of Lake Bomoseen; a daughter, Kristina Bortell, and her husband, Michael of Bennington; a sonm Ken Larson of Rutlan; two grandchildren, Naomi Larson and Ian Charles Larson, both of Bennington; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Larson of Bennington, extended family, Clarence and Paula Beayon, and several cousins, including Bruce Baccei of Proctor. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DURFEE FUNERAL HOME, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven. Memorial services will be held 12 noon on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Durfee Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery, Castleton.
