CHARLES KINGSydney Mines, Cape Breton, NS (Formerly of Toronto, ON)Charles King, 91, of Sydney Mines passed away peacefully on June 20, 2015 at Harborview Hospital.Born on December 12, 1923 in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Annie (Bragg) Riddle and Chesly King.Charles married Shirley, in Toronto, who was the love of his life from Cape Breton and they enjoyed 60 incredible years in Toronto. Two years ago they moved back home to Cape Breton, which was always in his heart.Charles was a Veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a Chauffeur for Canada Dry, retiring in 1989. He spent many years volunteering at a thrift store in New Hamburg, ON.Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley (Cantwell) King; daughter Dianne (Fred) King; sons Daryl King and Don (Wendy) King, all of Toronto; grandchildren Julie, Brandon, Ryan, Carson, Julian and Jessica; great-grandchildren Maddie, Taylor and Masion; as well as sisters Peg Fiefield of Sackville, NS, Josephine Aubrey, Sydney, Margaret (Don) Young of Sydney Mines, Elizabeth Weaver of Dartmouth and Phyllis Hillier of Sydney Mines. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Percy, Harry, Chesley, Ernie and two brothers in infancy.Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the John J. Nugent Firemen''s Centre, 1 Elliott St. in Sydney Mines, with reception to follow.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer Society or a charity of choice.
