JOHNSON, CHARLES L.Charles L. Johnson of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Charleston, SC to the late Elijah and Ella Johnson, Charles has been a resident of Bridgeport for the past fifty-five years. He was employed twenty years at Bridgeport plating, seven years at Bridgeport Brass and finally two years as a security guard at the University of Bridgeport. His spiritual needs were met as a disciple of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served in the Men's Chorus. A son Bernard Whitaker and daughter, Sharon Whitaker-Rowe predeceased him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-two years, Deaconess Janie Johnson of Bridgeport; two sons, Reginald Whitaker of NC and Arnold Whitaker of Bridgeport; five daughters, Jeanette Goodwin of FL, Beverly Aklin of West Haven, Barbara Whitaker of Bridgeport, Rev. Gerilyn Crawford of SC and Sheila Johnson-Belton of Bridgeport; a brother and sister, Walter Thomas and Katherine King of FL; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014, 11:00 AM at Mt. Aery Baptist Church, 73 Frank St., Bridgeport with Rev. Carl McCluster, officiating.
