Charles Howard Johnson, 95, of Liverpool, New York died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Camillus. Howard was born in Solvay, NY, May 13, 1917. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 1939. Howard obtained his master's degree in Structural Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1940. He was a licensed P.E. in the State of New York and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Howard was a civil engineer for Allied Chemical for 25 years in Solvay, NY and then in Madison, NJ. He then worked for Western Electric in New York City for 10 years. A faithful Methodist, Howard sang baritone in the church choir for 50 years at James Street Methodist, West Genesee Methodist and Madison United Methodist Churches. He taught Sunday school for 40 years and also was the Youth Advisor for 10 years. At Madison United Methodist in New Jersey, Howard was a trustee and then financial secretary for 11 years. Howard was married to Doris Buchanan in Ambridge, Pennsylvania on August 4, 1945. They celebrated their 67th year of marriage last year. Surviving are his wife, Doris of Liverpool, NY; son, Alan (Gretchen) Johnson of Fayetteville, NY; daughter, Judith (Lynn) Green of Cooperstown, NY and daughter, Pamela Johnson and companion, Roseanne McCarty of Kinternersville, PA; a sister, Mildred Jones; a brother, Wayne (Judy) Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Johnson and Charlotte Johnson; three grandchildren, Will (Susan), Amanda (Paul) and Jillian (Chris); four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held noon Saturday, March 16, at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd. E. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
