Charles G. Strickland, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, died on December 21, 2007. The son of Sarah Walker Strickland and Charles Strickland, he was born on September 13, 1929. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. An inveterate individualist, Charlie was often recognized on his long daily walks through local neighborhoods. Many who knew him saw him as part of an era of Jacksonville that has nearly disappeared. Survivors include his nieces and nephew, Sarah, Noel and Thomas Boardman, great-nieces Jennifer and Cynthia Boardman, and many cousins. A funeral service and interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Gate 5 on Baker Drive, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 19th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Cathedral Foundation, 4250 Lakeside Dr. #300, Jacksonville, 32210. The family thanks the staff of Cathedral Towers, at the Cathedral Gerontology Center, and at the George & Margaret Morris Center for Caring for their wonderful kindness, care, and support.
