Holmes, Charles FranklinApril 5, 1924 - Aug. 5, 2008Charles Franklin Holmes, 84, Venice, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died Aug. 5, 2008.Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Ewing Funeral Home. Services will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, Englewood. Survivors include his daughters, Ann E. (James E.) Cross and Susan L. Leach; four granddaughters, Tracy Castle, Megan Leach and twins Kalli and Kelli Cross; one great-grandson, Ryan Castle; and one great-granddaughter, Trinity Strauss, all of Venice.He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rita. Charles was born in Columbus, Ohio, April 5, 1924, and came from there 39 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired as chief plumbing inspector for the Sarasota County building department in 1996. He was a member of South Venice Christian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Whitehall, Ohio.
