Charles Edwin Chase, 89 CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- Charles Edwin Chase, 89, formerly Maine, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2008, in Chesapeake, Va. He was born in Westbrook, the son of Harry Burnham and Calanthe Louise Sylvester Chase. Charles served in the Army during World War II, he was a front line man in the Infantry. He married Alice Leonore Buteau in 1961. He worked in the family business, the Harry B. Chase Plumbing, for 20 years. He then became a Pipe Fitter and worked at the Portsmouth Ship Yard for twenty years before retiring. Charles was a member of the Warren Congregational Church in Westbrook, and the American Legion. He enjoyed being around the water and boating when he was younger. He enjoyed spending time at his camp at Thompson Point on Sebago Lake. He was very active with the lake community doing volunteer work around people's camps. He is survived by his wife Alice; a son David Lee Chase and his wife Linda of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother Harry B. Chase Jr. of Old Orchard; two grandchildren, Mark David Chase and Glen David Chase; and a great-grandson Spencer. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday. Interment with military honors will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
