MOORE Charles Charlie Rhea Moore, CDR U.S. Navy (Retired) 81, of E. Palatka, FL died, January 14, 2014, as result of Lewy Body Dementia w/Parkinsons at The Southlake Nursing and Rehab Center Mandarin, FL (he had resided at his home in E. Palatka until only recently/November 2013). His military, education, and, work history In chronological order: FL National Guard, Palatka, 1951 completed 2 years Citadel, Charleston, SC and entered Flight Training Pensacola, FL, 1955 Certificate Naval Aviator, 1956 Certificate Naval Aviator (Airship), 1957-1960 Flight Instructor Pensacola Naval Air Command, Had multi-bomber training, flew many different aircraft, most hours in SNJ, Favorite aircraft to fly was the Grumman Hell Cat, 1960 Commendation Outstanding Safety Record Flight Instructor over fifteen hundred accident free hours, 1961 Bachelor of Science Degree FSU, member of The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, 1966-1973 Naval Reserve Weekend Warriors, 1973 Armed Forces Staff College Graduate, 1977 Master of Science in Management Rollins College, Also, 1955 1988 Department of Defense Civilian career as Manager Logistics with Distinguished Career Award for 33 years service, 1989 Real Estate License, also, served as Treasurer Putnam County Historical Society and Treasurer to ST Johns River Chapter Military Officers Assoc. He was an Officer And A Gentleman, a devoted and loving Husband, Father/Step-Father, Brother, Friend, and Grandfather to his three Grandchildren who idolized their Papa , he and wife Janice over the years have traveled the world together. He is survived by his wife of 33 years and 4 months, Janice of E. Palatka, children Sherrie (Shane) Michaels and Charles Jr. (Chuck) all of Deltona, step children Michael Gray of Savannah, GA and Jeffrey/Jeff (Teresa) Gray and, grand children Marcus (14), Melissa (12) and Michael Charles (10) all of ST Augustine, brothers James/Jim (Carol) and David (Caroline) all of Ponte Vedra, nephews nieces. and cousins, and loving brotherly, childhood and long time friend Paul Matthews (Margaret) formerly of Palatka. He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley who died of multiple sclerosis and he, her care giver, his parents Earl and Ruth Moore of Palatka, his youngest brother stillborn at birth of Palatka, and, his older brother Bill (Joan) formerly of Palatka. Burial services with full military honors will be conducted Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 02:30 P.M.
