Charles Anderson, 6 Ottawa Street, Kapuskasing, died at his home on Aug. 10, 2003. He was 90 years-old. Mr. Anderson was born in Loshult, Svinon, Sweden on Jan. 2, 1913 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 on his own without speaking any English. He began working at Spruce Falls at the age of 16 and retired after 48 years of service as maintenance pipefitter foreman. “Charlie was a Kapuskasing pioneer and a treasure,” said Marg Jones. “He was a long-time family friends and I felt privileged and most fortunate to have worked with Charlie and Peter (Reddick) as part of the Santa Claus Telethon some 25 years ago.” He was a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge #2701, L.O. BA 936, Masonic Lodge and the Kapuskasing Cemetery Board and past president of the Kapuskasing and District Credit Union, Consumers Co-op, Local 89, Silver Seniors, the Santa Claus Fund, and the Eastern Star. “He was proud of his family, his community, his church and a dependable and upright Spruce Falls employee,” said Mrs. Jones. “His roots ran deep in Kapuskasing with concern for many, to include the less fortunate and his fellow pensioners. Charlie has left his mark on Kapuskasing and he will not be forgotten by anyone that crossed his path.” Mr. Anderson was predeceased by wife Edith, two sisters, one brother and son-in-law Ross MacDuff. He is survived by sons Bill of Etobicoke, Eric and Ross (companion Lise), all of Kap; daughters Mary Ann “Tootsie” MacDuff of Port Perry, Faye (Andre) Audet, Raili Anderson and Karen (Paul) Patoine, all of Kapuskasing. Also surviving are seven sisters, one brother, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Rev. Susan Best, assisted by Rev. Doug Richardson, will direct the funeral service
