Charleen Elizabeth "Mia" Smith-Marino, a native of New Orleans, La. and resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. for the past 12 years, passed away in her home on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, surrounded by loved ones, on the anniversary of her wedding celebration. Charleen led a fulfilled life, first as a nurse, then as a business owner with her longtime partner, Bernadette Marino. They owned Monet's Floral and Gift shop in Mandeville, La., Tres Monet in Grayton Beach, Fla., and later 30A Association Management Inc. in Santa Rosa Beach. Charleen was a licensed Community Association Manager. Her leadership in management helped transform housing developments into real communities, where homeowners were involved and friendships formed great neighborhoods. New Orleans was Charleen's city and was always in her heart. An avid football fan, she loved the New Orleans Saints and followed them from their very first game in Tulane Stadium. However, SEC football was in her blood. Even though she was a UC Berkley graduate, the LSU Tigers was her team. She always proudly flew flags for the Saints and LSU on the front of her home.Charleen was predeceased by her parents, Charles J. Smith Jr. and Joyce Elizabeth Smith.She is survived by her beloved companion of 32 years, Bernadette "Bernie" Marino, whom she married in New York in 2013; her two sons, Sean Guidry and Patrick Kirn; and her daughters-in-law, Karen Guidry and Autumn Cauley. She leaves behind her two grandchildren, Nicholas Guidry and Skye Elizabeth Kirn. She also leaves behind her beloved Lola, her 11 year old longhair dachshund that she loved with all her heart.A Celebration of Life will be held in her home, 102 West Wild Blueberry Way, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459, as she wished, on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Those close to her, please wear your cowboy boots in her memory. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dr. Mose Hayes III, at the Sacred Heart Oncology Infusion Center at 27 Mack Bayou Loop, Suite 1000, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Hayes and his staff, the nurses and all healthcare givers at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, the office and staff of Dr. John Chaney, and the nurses of Covenant Hospice.
