Obituary of Cecile-Louise Martin

HAGADORN, Cecile Louise With deep gratitude to God for the life of our cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother who, in her 103rd year, went peacefully home to her Maker on May 20, 2008, at Henley House. Beloved wife of the late Raymond Hagadorn (1988). Dearly loved mother of Larry Hagadorn of St. Catharines, Robert Hagadorn, and wife Joan, of St. Catharines, Joan Wilson, and husband Terry, of Edmonton, Gale Knerr, and husband Fritz, of Thorold, and Wayne Hagadorn, and wife Judy, of Fonthill. Predeceased by two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren, she is survived by a sister in Flint, Wales, and by 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Born in Flint, Wales, on July 11, 1905, Cecile Louise Martin, the second child in a family of five children, left home at the young age of 16, and after 2 years, working in London, England, sailed to a new life in Canada. She was alone, on her own, but filled with hope and determination. Settling in St. Catharines, in 1923, she was later employed at Alexander Hall, the former Ontario St. home for single business women, until the beginning of marriage and family raising in 1928. During her senior years, Cecile was a conscientious volunteer and life member in the St. Catharines General Auxiliary, serving some 25 years with its morning Flower Service until its cessation in the mid nineties. A 60 year marriage to husband Raymond, prospered until his demise in 1988. Our mother was a devoted wife and a most loving and selfless parent, grandmother and great grandmother, who was ever committed to her husband and family. As the truly fortunate benefactors of her constant love, abiding good humour and eternal faith, our family is left deeply and sadly bereft. The memory of our mother's kind and gentle nature, and her unfaltering true goodness will live on in our hearts forever. The family extends sincere thanks to all the staff at Henley House where Mom resided for the past 2 years, particularly those of Woodend Park, for their concern and compassionate care. Friends will be received at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St., (905-684-6346) on Friday, May 23, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Highway 20, Fonthill. For those who wish, memorial remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. 11096894
