CECIL LAWRENCE JOHNSON Cecil Lawrence Johnson passed away peacefully at 71 years of age, surrounded by his beloved family on October 3, 2007 at Indian River Medical Center. He was born December 14, 1935 in Angier, North Carolina and was a resident of Vero Beach and Oxford, North Carolina. Cecil leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Anna Rose Smith Johnson of Vero Beach; children Susan Johnson, Scott Johnson and Julie (Brad) Springer; 5 grandchildren, E.J., Kaitlin, Mallorie, MacKenzie and Chandler all of Vero Beach; sisters, Jean Smith, Mary House and Ada Parker all of North Carolina and many nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Cecil was predeceased by his grandson Brandon Johnson. Cecil was a businessman involved in packing and shipping citrus throughout the United Sates and the world. He built his career in the citrus industry for many years with Leroy E. Smith & Sons from which he retired in 1989. Following his retirement in 1991 he and his family opened The Johnson Gallery which sold fine art and antiques. Cecil was always kind, cheerful and generous of heart, as well as a loving husband, Father, Grandfather and friend. He always saw the best in people and you never heard him say anything negative. He was a wise advisor and friend to many of his employees. Many people he came in contact with found him to be a good listener and valued his advice. He loved taking trips with family members. Cecil had a passion for horses and he and his son raised world champion Tennessee Walking Horses. He was a good card player and always gave family and friends a run for their money. Everyone will miss his good natured sense of humor. His family feels blessed to have had him in their lives. They thank him for an innocent and wondrous childhood, a happy home and a lifetime of love and support. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. At the request of the family services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, the American Heart Association, the National Diabetes Association.
