TODD, Catherine "Cath" Ruth (nee Gair) July 31, 1958 – Calgary, Alberta March 24, 2016 – Calgary, AlbertaCath Todd, mother, grandma, sister, friend, colleague, passed away at home surrounded by family and close friends, on Thursday March 24, 2016 at the age of 57 years.Cath grew up in Calgary and Edmonton with competitive sports and family camping trips filling her spare time during her early years. As a teenager, Cath anchored her school volleyball, basketball and badminton teams and was the perennial winner of the female athlete-of-the-year award. At times, her competitive spirit could intimidate opponents and teammates alike. During these years, she funded her early passion for alpine skiing by working the deli counter at Woodwards Market Mall. Cath earned a diploma at SAIT before completing a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. At the U of C, Cath fell in with a group of mechanical engineers and their partners, many of whom became lifelong friends. The foundations of these friendships were a love of life and an unquenchable thirst for margaritas. Cath joined the work world in 1982 with Home Oil. She soon discovered her aptitude for project management and strategic initiative development and gradually turned her career into a consulting/teaching role in these fields. Along the way, Cath never lived far from the Calgary Winter Club where she played racquet sports, always with a winning edge. She was a lifelong learner, constantly seeking ways to apply newfound knowledge both introspectively and in her project management pursuits. In 1996, she added an MSc in Organization Development from Pepperdine University. Cath consulted for firms across a number of sectors, most recently for Husky and Shell. Mount Royal University, the U of Calgary and Royal Rhodes University all benefited from her clear thinking and strong communication skills to develop programs and lead classroom sessions on Project and Knowledge Management. Intertwined with her professional pursuits, Cath was a dedicated mom to her three children. Camping, sporting events, often acting as ''neighbourhood mom'' and day to day activities kept her kids close. Recently, Cath found more time to travel. Numerous trips with family and friends to some of her favorite places like Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs and Phoenix interspersed with trips further afield. She also developed a passion for sailing that would see her take the tiller in the Caribbean, and off the coasts of Turkey and British Columbia. In 2008, she joined Silver Springs Golf & Country Club and soon became a regular both on the fairway (long down the middle) and on various committees. She would usually arrive at the course in her Porsche with the top down, hair streaming. Cath developed many strong friendships at SSGCC and helped organize numerous social events, at which she was usually the last to leave the dance floor. In recent years, she hosted many bridge nights at her newly-renovated home. Cath also poured her talent and energy into helping a number of charitable organizations, most notably the Alberta Children''s Hospital. In 2015, Cath championed a new initiative, Woman 2 Warrior - a fun, participatory fund-raiser for the Children''s Hospital Aid Society and Easter Seals. In 2016, Cath was the recipient of a Fellowship award from the Project Management Institute (Southern Alberta) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Project Management field. Cath is survived by her children Leslie, Derek (Shaunna) and Shea Mills; grandchildren Jack and Stella; mother Ruth Gair; and brothers Jeff Gair (Sheila) and Scott Gair (Joy). Cath was predeceased by her father Robert Gair.A celebration of Cath''s life will be held at Silver Springs Golf Club (1600 Varsity Estates Drive NW), on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta Children''s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818. The family wishes to thank the Palliative Home Care team and many cherished friends, notably Jan, for their compassionate care during Cath''s final months. Cath packed a lot into her 57 years. Her strength, determination, "can do" work ethic and passion for fun will be missed and continue to inspire those who knew her for many years to come. In living memory of Catherine Todd, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
