Retired Certified Nursing Assistant AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Catherine Tanksley Johnson, 60, beloved wife of 38 years of Robert F. Johnson, entered into rest on Friday, August 20, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 25, at 2 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Herman Bing presiding and Rev. Beotis Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Lovett Hill B.C. Cemetery in Hiltonia, Ga. She was the youngest of seven children of the late Henry Tanksley, Sr. and the late Helen and Alvin Walton. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Francis Howard, Ophelia Lewis, Henry Tanksley, Jr., and Ora Lee Tanksley; and father in law, Frank Johnson. A lifelong resident of Augusta, Ga., Catherine was educated in the Richmond County School System. She was a proud graduate of Lucy C. Laney Comprehensive High School, Class of 1969. She furthered her education at Augusta Technical College where she completed degrees in Nursing Assistance and Cosmetology. A lover of people and caregiver to all, Catherine was employed for 30 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant II with St. Joseph Hospice. She leaves to cherish fond and happy memories: her devoted husband, Deacon Robert F. Johnson; three loving sons, SSG Ricardo (Schwanna) Johnson, Robert C. (Neoski) Johnson, and Jeffery Johnson (fiancŽe, Amber Harris); two sisters, Helen (John) Hills and Josephine Tanksley; mother in law, Ollie Johnson; godmother, Pearlie Kemmerlin; aunts, Connie Mills and Elease Lord; 11 grandchildren; 3 godchildren; and a host of adoring sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
