MOORE Catherine Patsy Sirmans Moore - November 26, 1940 - January 26, 2015. On Monday evening, Jan. 26, Catherine Patsy Moore passed away surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Just three months earlier, she had received a diagnosis of ALS, a horrible and debilitating disease. Catherine and her family knew she was in a battle for her life - one that even she could not win. But like with everything else, she didn't give up. Catherine fought ALS with everything she had. Our main priority as a family was to make her final days on this earth as peaceful, comfortable and secure as possible. And we did just that, keeping her in the comfort of her home, never leaving her side and making sure she had everything she needed to help in her daily struggles. In her life, she was blessed with many talents, including singing, dancing and playing the piano. She and her husband, Curtis, enjoyed singing together at many functions. One she seemed most proud of was a gig on stage on the 4th of July at the old Jacksonville Coliseum. Oh, how she loved to reminisce about that experience. And up until the very end, she and Curtis had a healthy competition about who was the better singer. Of course, we all thought they were both quite good. And man, could she cook. She loved to be in her kitchen whipping up delicious food and baked goods to share with friends and family. There were too many family favorites to mention, but her specialties were her fudge, fruit pizza, pecan pie, homemade mashed potatoes, tomato pie, Shepherd's pie (Tarah said it was good because 'it had taters in it') and her awesome Sad cake. Catherine was an amazing host. When you walked in her house, it felt like home. She welcomed you with open arms and couldn't do enough to make your visit a pure delight. Her home was filled with wonderful antiques she and Curtis enjoyed collecting throughout their 34 years together. She loved getting up early on Saturday mornings and heading out for a day of estate sales, thrift store browsing or just cruising around to enjoy a beautiful day. She was so much fun. Catherine had a heart of gold and was always willing to help friends and family in times of need. She also had a tender spot in her heart for those who were less fortunate. Many times she'd stop her car and offer food or a few bucks to complete strangers who were down on their luck. Most important, she had a deep love for The Lord and made sure each person in her family accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts so we would all be together again. Catherine leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Curtis; her children: Deborah Wilson (Cary), Cherri Pitzer, and Hugh Thompson Jr. (Robyn); her grandchildren: Courtney and Kerry Gilbreath, Ashley Seroyer, Lauren Pitzer, Hugh Thompson III, Jordan Pitzer, Tarah Thompson and Graham Wilson; her great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and London Gilbreath and Tate Seroyer; her sister, Ann Johnson; and devoted and lifelong friends, Sarah Atteberry and Darthy Phillips. At Catherine's request there will be no formal funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Catherine's honor to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida (because we couldn't have gone through this without them) or to the ALS Association (so they may one day find a cure).
