Obituary of Catherine Mitchell


Catherine A. (DeWandler) Mitchell Catherine A. (DeWandler) Mitchell, 67, of Dannemora, N.Y., passed away on Thursday Oct. 20, 2011, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with her family by her side. She was born on June 30, 1944, in Elmira, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Catherine and Joseph DeWandler. She moved to Canandaigua at an early age and attended St. Mary's School and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1963. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Mitchell; and sister, Judy DeWandler. Kay is survived by her son, Michael Mitchell; daughters, Francine and Jennifer Mitchell; brothers, Tim DeWandler and Joseph (Jane) DeWandler; sister, Joan (James) Gouge; several grandchildren, Eric, Steven and Christopher Mitchell, Lizabeth Trudeau and Kaleb and Jeremy LaValley; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay worked at Canandaigua schools before becoming an assistant branch manager for Keeseville National Bank, from where she retired in 1999 after more than 30 years of service. Interment was on Monday, October 24, at St. Joseph's Church and cemetery in Dannemora. Donations may be made in her honor to Special Olympics New York, 504 Balltown Road, Schenectady, NY 12304.
