Catherine-Mary Fleming, spouse of Melvin Kenneth Larsen, daughter of Thomas and Catherine, mother of Barbara, Phyllis and Karen, died on September 6, 2004. Please consult the obituary here:
LARSEN, Catherine Mary. Surrounded by family, Catherine passed away peacefully at home September 6, 2004. Formerly of Portugal Cove, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Hines) Fleming. Her husband, Melvin Kenneth Larsen of Innisfail, Alberta, predeceased her. Catherine was blessed with a strong belief in her faith, which sheltered her throughout her illness. In the aftermath of the war and in her early years of employment, she was especially accomplished at hand-colouring black and white photographs at Myers Studio in Halifax. Catherine was a talented artist who enjoyed oil and watercolour painting. She was a dedicated community volunteer who was recognized for her many years of service delivering Meals on Wheels. Married to a military officer, Catherine made a loving home for her family wherever they were posted Halifax, Victoria, Ottawa, Sydney and Cornwall. Catherine will be missed for her exuberance for life, her Newfie optimism and, because of her amazing style. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alice, Mary and Bridget, seven brothers, Michael, Jack, Peter, Leo, Alban, Vincent and Stan. Catherine is survived by her sister, Monica McCallum, Boston, her sister-in-law, Eva Bond, Priddis, Alberta, her three daughters, Karen Larsen (Stephen Kennedy), Phyllis Larsen, Halifax, and Barbara Pickthorne, Ottawa, grandchildren, Craig Pickthorne, Toronto and Andrew- Paul Kennedy, Halifax, loving extended family, Melinda Pickthorne, William Pickthorne, Tony Willis and Danny Chapman. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff in the GastroeEnterology Unit at the QE 11 Health Sciences Centre for the care given to Catherine while convalescing in Halifax and to, Ann Blackwood for the compassionate care that she received in Ottawa. A funeral service to celebrate Catherines life will be held Friday, September 10 at St. Theresas Roman Catholic Church, 95 Somerset West, Ottawa, at 11:00 am.
