NORTH BENNINGTON -- Catherine L. Devlin, a resident of White Creek Road, died peacefully Thursday evening, Dec. 27, 2007, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., surrounded by her family.Catherine was born in Petersburg, N.Y., on May 19, 1942, the daughter of Robert Church and Gertrude (Deakin) Butler, and attended local schools. Catherine worked for many years at the Pownal Tannery until it closed, then worked for the Troy (N.Y.) Record newspaper. She enjoyed crafts, stock car racing and cherished times spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Eagles in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and was past president of the women’s auxiliary.Catherine is survived by her husband, Edward Devlin of North Bennington, to whom she married in Pittstown, N. Y., on Nov. 10, 1973; her mother, Gertrude Butler; three sons, Robert Hurley and his wife Tracy of North Pownal, Edward Hurley Sr. and his companion Penny Baker of Hanover, Pa., and Patrick Hurley and his wife Jennifer, also of Hanover; four daughters, Rebecca Hurley and her companion Timothy Corcoran of Burlington, Judy Cross and her companion Roy Alpers of Rye, Texas, Cindy Tifft and her husband Marcus of North Bennington, and Terry Putnam and her companion Dean Catellier of Cambridge, N.Y.; her brothers, Garry Church and his wife Cinderella of Edgewood, Md., and Bruce Church of Hoosick, N.Y.; her sisters, Gayle Rifenburgh and her husband William of Hoosick, and Caroline Church of Brunswick; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kitley Tifft, and her sister, Diane Camp, and her father, Robert Church. Funeral services for Catherine will be held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington. The Rev. Kathleen Clark of the Federated Church in East Arlington will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
