Catherine Kay Kent, 64 WESTBROOK -- Catherine Kay Kent, 64, of Cottage Place, died Sunday July 8, 2007, at Mercy hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Portland, June 27, 1943, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Mcdonough Connolly. Kay grew up in Gorham's Corner and was a graduate of Portland High School. She was also a graduate of Pierre's School of Beauty. She worked as a hairdresser for many years and also as a Crossing Guard in Portland and Westbrook. Kay married the love of her life Paul Kent Sr. on Sept. 8, 1967, and raised their four children. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and always celebrated St. Patrick's Day with a traditional Irish Dinner of corned beef and Irish soda bread. She was a devout Elvis Presley fan and treasured the tickets that she had to the concert that was to be held in Portland. Kay really enjoyed the time that she and Paul spent in Southwest Harbor in 1967 and 1968 while Paul served as an electrician in the Coast Guard. The summer of 1968 was also very special for Kay and Paul, when Paul served as relief lighthouse keeper for the Owls Head Light House. Kay often reminisced with her family of her fond memories of those times. Kay leaves behind her husband of 40 years Paul Kent Sr.; daughters Gail Kent and boyfriend Sean Stanton of Gorham, Tammie and husband Ditchie Brown of Naples; son Paul Kent Jr. and wife Jennifer of Windham, and Todd and wife Karla Kent of Westbrook. Kay leaves wonderful grandchildren, Heather Kent, Amanda Willette, Bobby Guptil, Kelsie Berry, Kaleb, Emily and Nolan Kent. Kay was predeceased by brothers Charlie and Eddie Connolly, she is survived by her brother Joseph Connolly of Portland; sister Margaret Connolly Droback of Wildomar, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and her faithful beagle Gidget. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Graveside services will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. in New Calvary Cemetery, Broadway South Portland. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to: The Humane Society 279 River Rd.
