ObituaryCATHERINE ELIZABETH (CULLINAN) MICHELITHACA - Catherine Elizabeth (Cullinan) Michel, a twenty-two year resident of Ithaca, NY, passed away on November 13, 2006 at Cayuga Medical Center.Catherine was born on October 12, 1920 in Minerva, Ohio, to Michael Joseph Cullinan of County Clare, Ireland, and Anna Mary Connolly Cullinan of County Galway, Ireland. She graduated from St. Benedict's High School of Cambridge, Ohio in 1938, and received her registered nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio in 1941.She enlisted in the United States Army Nurse Corps on December 7, 1941, and served in the 100th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theater, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.On May 11, 1945 in Heerlen, Holland, she married 1st Sergeant Joseph L. Michel of Philadelphia, PA.Catherine is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughter Teresa Michel of Aurora, NY (grandchildren, Shannon Kohm of Queens, NY, his wife, Elizabeth and their sons, James and Jackson, Aurora Kohm of New York City, NY, and Erin Emerson of Ithaca, NY); son, J. Thomas Michel of Seattle, WA (grandchildren, Brendan and Anna Michel); daughter, Patricia Bownas of Poughkeepsie, NY, her husband, David (grandchildren, William Bownas of Poughquag, NY, Edward Bownas of Millbrook, NY, his wife, Kimberly and their children, Christopher, Samantha and Brianna, and Joel Bownas of Montgomery, NY, and his wife, Kristen); son, Robert Michel of Bryn Mawr, PA and his wife, Kathryn; son, Paul Michel of Seattle, WA, his wife, Ann (grandchildren, Colin and Peter Michel); sisters, Teresa Wenzell and Patricia Thompson of Philadelphia, PA, Jeanne Brown of Columbus, OH; and brother, Paul Cullinan of Bradenton, FL.She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Anna Cullinan; sisters, Mary Cullinan, Evelyn Le Gendre, Ann Gallant, and Rita Lee; and brothers, John Cullinan and Thomas Cullinan.A private service will be held for Catherine on Thursday, November 16, 2006, and she will be buried with full Military Honors in the National Cemetery in Bath, NY.
