BELFAST and ISLESBORO Catherine Dove Adams, 55, peacefully passed on her father's birthday under a beautiful full moon Dec. 12, 2008, at her home in Belfast, with her two sons by her bedside, after an arduous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 28, 1953, in Bangor, one of five children born of Carl and Catherine Sargent. She attended Bangor High School and graduated in 1971. She then went to college at the University of Maine at Machias and graduated in 1975 with a degree in early childhood education. She then moved to Sanbornville, N.H., where she worked as a preschool teacher and secretary at the town's police station. While in New Hampshire, she had two children, Jonathan and Benjamin, which she would claim as her proudest accomplishment. She moved to Islesboro in 1987, and fell in love with the community where she gave back as much as she received. On Islesboro, she pursued her passion by gardening with Sue's Crew and also worked at Islesboro Market as an accountant. Catherine then went back to school at the University of Maine at Augusta and graduated, receiving her nursing degree in 1994. Then she worked at Tall Pines Nursing Home, Belfast. At the same time she became involved with Islesboro Ambulance Association and EMS. She began working at Waldo County General Hospital in 1995, and later became an emergency room nurse, a job that she was very passionate about. While working in Belfast, she continued to serve the Islesboro community. She became a member of Islesboro School Board in 1996, and later became the chairman. Catherine also enjoyed traveling around the country as well as internationally, the simple pleasures of walking along the beach, enjoying the sunset, good times with friends and family. Catherine touched the lives of many and will be remembered by all. Three words that come to mind to all who knew her are kindness, grace and compassion. Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. The celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Second Baptist Church, Islesboro, with a potluck reception after. Check ferry schedule for more information on travel. As Cathy's wish for memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, she had requested that an educational scholarship be set up for her grandkids. Contact her son, Jonathan, with any questions. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
