MERIDEN- Carolyn Oliver Smith, 78, of Meriden, beloved wife of the late Elmer B. Smith, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. Carolyn was born in Limerick, Maine, Aug. 6, 1935, the daughter of the late Ralph and Elva Libby Oliver and had been a Meriden resident for many years. She was employed at Gaylord Hospital for 30 years before retiring as a Health Unit Coordinator.She is survived by Darlynn Pappas, of Wallingford, Sylvia Rider, Vicky Wrobel and her husband, James, and Melody Lovely and her husband, Allen, all of Meriden; her seven grandchildren, Gary Pappas and his wife, Heather, Jason Pappas and his wife, Teresa, Jessica Rider, Jeffrey Rider, Nicholas Wrobel and his wife, Vanessa, Rebecca Wrobel and Joshua Lovely; seven great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Richard Oliver and his wife, Marie and Robert Oliver, all of Maine; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Oliver.Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Meriden Center for the compassionate care that they provided.Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Friday, Feb. 14, from 5 until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. www.wallingfordfh.com.
