Obituary of Carolyn-Harlan James


Anniston - Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Harlan James, 84, of Anniston, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011, in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Anniston with the Reverend Pete Hawker officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the service hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. James passed away on May 29, 2011 at RMC. Mrs. James was born and raised in Cleburne County. She was a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She had worked for the Alabama Department of Pension and Security and spent her final working years with the East Alabama Area Agency on Aging as a Social Worker. Mrs. James was a member of First United Methodist Church of Anniston. She loved growing flowers in her yard and for several years planted a garden at Camp Lee. Mrs. James was devoted to her family, Auburn University, and the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her husband, William Petree James; her parents, Orlan and Erna Entrekin Harlan; and her brother, Clyde Harlan. Mrs. James is survived by her children, Martha James Thomas, of Anniston, Harlan James and wife, Janie, of Dunwoody, Ga., and John James and wife, Daisy, of Vestavia Hills; a sister, Vernelle Lumpkin, of Anniston; and grandchildren, Fletcher James, Adelaide James, Wade Thomas, Slay James, Sophie James, Mary Sanders James. Pallbearers will be Fletcher James, Wade Thomas, Slay James, Bill Bolt, Chuck Sawyer and Jonathan Hand. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
