A longtime Tallahassee resident, she was a retired accountant for the Florida Department of H.R.S. Family will receive friends Friday from 6 - 8 pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. The funeral service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, with internment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.A strong Christian woman, Carolyn valued her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She regularly assisted with Wednesday night suppers at her church. Carolyn was known by her family and friends to be a very faithful FSU fan. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 14 years, Ret. CSM John W. Henderson, her daughter, Wendi Brister Waltz (husband Scott), her brother, Richard "Dickie" Gowan (wife Shelia), sister, Margaret "Judy" Huard, a great niece, Keturah Gowan Miller (husband Michael), and five grandchildren who called her "Nannie"; Corinne, Ella, Magdalene, Zerin and Shilom.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ferguson William Brister, by her parents, Clarence "Pete" Gowan and Edna Carter Roberts Gowan and her brother, Jimmy Gowan. Memorials may be made to Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, 1700 N. Meridian Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32303, in Carolyn's Memory.
