Carol (Molla) Van Horn, 65 of Alexandria VA, formerly of Norwell, died suddenly at her home, Dec. 13. Born in Weymouth, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Carmella (DeFabio) Molla Sr. Carol was a graduate of Norwell High School and Regis College. Carol had a successful career with the federal government of more than thirty years. She worked at the Peace Corps and the U.S. Census Bureau, from which she retired in 2003 as the Assistant Associate Director for the Decennial Census. She was a key to the Census Bureaus successful 2000 Census, but among her most important accomplishments were the many colleagues she mentored, as well as her many friends she encouraged. She loved to travel and in recent years visited Columbia, the Republic of Georgia, Italy, Spain and most recently Mexico. Carol also enjoyed spending time in the summer on Saquish Beach, in Duxbury. She is survived by her cherished son, Alane Todd Van Horn of Harbor, OR. Carol was a devoted sister to her siblings Robert Molla Jr. of Norwell, Rosemarie Shortall of Hanover, Carmella Sally Osgood of FL, Joanne Goldman of Norwell, Francis Molla Sr. of Norwell, Marie Molla of Norwell, Nancy Catton of Rockland, Catherine McInnis of Norwell and Mary Campbell of Hanson. She was a special aunt to several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53, in Hanover, Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Helen Church, 383 Washington St., Rte. 53, Norwell.
