HOOKSETT - Carol M. Smith, 73, of Hooksett, died Oct. 17, 2011, at Bel-Air Health Care Center in Goffstown. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Manchester, a daughter of Elmer and Margaret (O'Brien) Cushing and had been a lifelong Manchester area resident. During Mrs. Smith's life, volunteering was the spiritual foundation she cherished. Her work was focused primarily at the local nursing homes, caring for Alzheimer's residents. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Peter Church and was very devoted to her church and worship life. She had the gift of giving, seen in her generosity of time and gifts. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Norman C. Smith. Family includes one son, Richard C. Smith of Hooksett; one daughter, Shawne C. Holden of Goffstown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. . SERVICES: Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., Manchester. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Church in Auburn. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.Memorial contributions may be sent to New Horizons, 199 Manchester St., Manchester 03103.
