HomemakerLAKELAND -- Mrs. Carol E. Smith of Lakeland died of congestive heart failure Sunday (Jan. 11, 2004) at Auburndale Oaks Healthcare. She was 79.Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sept. 20, 1924, she came to Lakeland from Wayne, Mich., in 1968. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lakeland.Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, Jeffery Smith, Richard Smith, both of Auburndale; daughter, Ruth Gilbert, Lakeland; stepdaughter, Georgia Battice, Ludington, Mich.; stepbrother, Melvin Mohn, Springfield, Kan.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.
