Carol Jones Mitchell passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Newnan, Ga.Carol was a loving and generous mother to her surviving children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol E. Jones was born in Decatur, Ga., on Dec. 20, 1925, and grew up as an Atlanta native. On Dec. 16, 1951, Carol married her Air Force sweetheart, Lt. George H. Mitchell, and together George and Carol moved and lived around the world with their growing family in places such as the Azores, Japan and Germany. After retirement from the Air Force in 1970, the Mitchell family made its home in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.Carol is survived by sons, Terry and Allen and their families: Terry and Dot Mitchell and grandson and family, Ryan and Hannah Mitchell and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Lee, and by granddaughter Katie Mitchell; Allen and Sherry Mitchell, her grandson Aaron and Susan Mitchell, and great-grandsons, Reid and Reilly, and by granddaughter, Hilary Rochow.Carol was a special delight to us all but was a particular joy to her daughter, Sandra L. Mitchell, of Newnan, with whom Carol built a home and lived for the last five years. Carol was predeceased by her loving husband, Lt Col. George H. Mitchell, on April 5, 1992, and will be interred next to George at Beal Memorial Cemetery.Carol and family may be visited on Saturday, April 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
