Carol F. Smith of Oak Street died Saturday April 5, 2014. With her family at her side, Carol passed away at the Matthew House of Auburn, following a battle with cancer at the age of 71. Born January 23, 1943 in Mehoopany, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lucy Stone Phillips. She was a graduate of Auburn's Central High School, and had previously been employed at Chapel's clothing store. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Auburn. Carol is survived by her husband, Frederick H. Smith, with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in August of this year, her daughter, Karen Ellen Towle and her husband, Timothy of Tennessee; her three sons, Daniel F. Smith and his wife, Jamie of Virginia, Paul Smith and his wife, Michele and Matthew C. Smith and his wife, Melissa, all of Auburn; seven grandchildren,; a sister, Joyce Phillips of Clay, and a brother, Richard (Joan) Phillips of Palmyra; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her sister, Janet Phillips; her brother, David and Jimmy Phillips. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Second Baptist Church, 1 North Herman Ave., Auburn. Burial will be in Soule Cemetery, Sennett. Friends are invited to call on the family, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Carol Smith may be made to the Matthew House on 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn NY 13021. Date of Death: April 5, 2014
