Myers, Carol Boardman CHARLOTTE, N.C. Carol Boardman Myers was born on December 7, 1947 in Albany, N.Y. She died in Charlotte, N. C . on August 22, 2007 after a brief illness. Carol grew up in Albany and at Van Wies Point in Glenmont. The Myers family owned and operated the John G. Myers department store on North Pearl St. in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Carol attended St. Agnes School and Hood College. She completed an M.S. in Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She joined the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County (PLCMC) as a reference librarian after positions at UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University and Queens University of Charlotte. She advanced to director of technical services and director of branch services, where she supervised the design and opening of 17 new branches. She served as chief of public services and was interim director of the PLCMC in 2003 and 2004. She was assistant director of libraries from 2004 until her retirement in April 2007, after 33 years at the PLCMC. At her retirement, the PLCMC established the annual Carol B. Myers Leadership Award to honor her leadership, dedication and vision and her many contributions to the PLCMC's national reputation. Carol was deeply committed to the Church of the Holy Comforter in Charlotte. She was an active and faithful member of the Altar Guild and the Crossroads Women's Group. She served on the vestry and as senior warden of the vestry. Since 2000 she also served on the advisory board of the Church of the Beloved in Charlotte. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Huth Myers and Mary Helen Boardman Myers; and by two sisters. She is survived by her brothers and their spouses, Stewart C. and Maureen M. Myers of Lexington, Mass. and Roy B. and JoAnn S. Myers of St. Michaels, Md.; and by her niece and nephews, Katherine B. Myers of St. Michaels, Alexander K. Myers of Nashville, Tenn. and Bruce B.
