The funeral for Mr. Carl David "Bud" Wright will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Bud Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. today. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family. Bud, 83, of Florence, passed away at his home Thursday after an extended illness. He was born in Paint Rock, Ala., grew up in Scottsboro and moved to Florence, where he had lived the past 58 years. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran. He served in the European Theatre and was awarded the American Defense Service Ribbon, the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbons, with three bronze stars.He was self-employed at C&D Body Shop and was an avid fisherman. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Lillian Wright; and by six sisters and one brother.Bud is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Roberta Strickland Wright, Florence; daughters, Joan Hudson and husband, Larry, Memphis, Tenn., Marlene Bernauer and husband, Gerry, Florence; grandchildren, Joley Smith and Chad Smith, Memphis, Tenn., Matt Bernauer and Andrew Bernauer, Florence; brothers, Ed Wright, Henderson, Tenn., Gene Wright, Florence; and sister, Mary Alice Nash, Rome Ga.Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chad Smith, Matt Bernauer, Andrew Bernauer and also Bill Strickland Jr., Billy Strickland and Austin Strickland.The Wright family would like to thank the staff at Mid South Home Health Care and Hospice of the Shoals for the loving kindness and attention shown Mr. Wright and to the Highland Baptist Church family for their prayers and loving support.
