Capt. Harry Bond Watson, U.S. Army (Retired) SPARTANBURG, SC-- Captain Harry Bond Watson, 88, formerly of Spartanburg, died Monday, July 5, 2010 at Camp Care Nursing Home in Inman. Mr. Watson was born in Catlettsburg, KY, on February 14, 1922, the son of the late James Sullivan and Dora (Williams) Watson. He was married for over 50 years to Sue Aycock Watson of the home. He was a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over 39 years. He was a U.S. Army World War II and Korean War Veteran and retired with rank of Captain after over 24 years of service. He was the recipient of the following: the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal & Bronze & Silver Star Attachment, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW II. Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Honorable Service Lapel Button WW II, Expert, Carbine & Pistol Bars, and Marksman Badge & Rifle Bar. He was also an insurance agent with Independent Life, worked with the U.S. Postal Service, and retired from the Spartanburg Sewer Commission with 20 years of service. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, H. Kevin Watson; and a grandson, Kyle Matthew Watson of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a sister, Pamela Sue Watson. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC, with Full Military Rites. A visitation will be held immediately after the service at graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to the Rutherford County Honor Guard, 564 Terry Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
