Curtiss Lee Carter, born on May 10, 1921 in Kenbridge, VA to the late Arthur James Seward I and Maude (Peace) Seward, departed this life following a long illness on January 26, 2008. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Pauline Reed (Aaron) of Long Beach, CA, Patricia Carter Coleman, of NY, NY; her stepmother, Nannie Seward of WP; two stepsisters, Carrie Williams of WP, Mary Wallace of Orange, NJ; two devoted granddaughters, Capt. Staci N. Coleman, USAF, of Atlanta, GA, Stefani Lee Clarke (Naquan), of Fleetwood, NY; one great-grandson, Naquan Clarke, Jr, of Fleetwood, NY, raised and loved as her own children, niece and nephew, Ruth Jamison, of Atlanta, GA, Arthur J. Seward II (Mary Ann) of Honesdale, PA, seven great nieces, eight great nephews; a devoted friend, Alice Williams and a host of dear cousins, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Joseph Carter, and her sisters, Emma Hawkins, Ruth Seward and Ola Seward. A private cremation was held and her cremains buried with her late husband at Long Island National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at Lee's Funeral Home, 160 Fisher Ave., White Plains, NY 10606 at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2008. Fellowship and repast will be held immediately following the Memorial Service at Bethel Baptist Church, One Fisher Court, White Plains, NY.
