WILLIAMS, Claudine Payne, born April 9, 1909 in Brantley, AL, died May 30, 2002 in Friendswood, TX. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clanton W. Williams. Dr. and Mrs. Williams were a loving couple whose life was full of adventures. They began their life together in Tuscaloosa, where he was on the Faculty at the University of Alaba-ma for 25 years, with time spent in the military during WWII. During the Korean War, he served his country at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery. They then accepted the position of Pre-sident of The University of Houston in Texas. During the 1960's & 70's, they again served their country in the Diplomatic Service in the near East. In 1972, they returned to Montgom-ery where he served as Head of the Alabama Commission for Higher Education. After her husband's death, Mrs. Williams lived the re-mainder of her life with her daughters, Pamela Beeth and Eleanor Densford in Texas. Mrs. Wil-liams was actively involved in each of her husband's careers, serving as an example of Southern Hospi-tality and a gracious way of life. She instilled in all her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children, outstanding character, morals & values. She exhibited her graciousness even unto death.She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and John Burgess; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Payne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Don Beeth and Eleanor and James Densford; se-ven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
